Game & engine fork are in active development. Games will need to be targeted on a case-by-case, feature-by-feature basis.Ī list of the games that are currently known to work (although perhaps with minor i could see this working especially well for a streaming format, letting viewers vote on what decisions to make.Since the feature-set of WME Lite differs from that of the full Wintermute Engine, I think this is a good introductory game for someone new to roguelites or someone looking for a lighthearted narrative. Once you get upgrades to your speed the combat becomes really engaging! and im a bit sad there were no 'boss' creatures or that the combat areas are as short as they are. since returning in 2022 the truthfinder and the were added which are symbols that show you the paths that lead to a new truth and the paths you havent been down respectfully, this is a wonderful frustration reducing feature as theres no simple way to quit a run or jump to different checkmarks of a story. this made trying to find the different 'truths' hard (you need 4 to unlock the true ending) difficult, as id often accidentally end up at the same one over and over through different paths, and the only way to keep track of which paths id done so far was to memorize or write them down. On the quality of life side i first bought and played this game in 2018, and to my memory the truthfinder and the were not present during that original run. its weaknesses lie in the location variety, skill tree depth, inability to skip dialogue youve heard before, and small combat rooms. the voice acting is top-notch for the saturday morning cartoon vibe its going for, the endings are fun to explore, the worldbuilding is engaging, and the concept itself of the book being the framing device for the runs is neat. This is a charming and mechanically intuitive roguelite game. Grinding for 100% completion, on the other hand, is quite tedious. Overall I recommend a few playthoughs of the games to get to the true ending. There is a combo score that rewards clean play, but the reward is just a bit less grind to complete all paths of the stories. Once you unlock all of them, the following upgrades are just there to speed up the grind for 100% endings, until you become an unstoppable machine of instant death. You get a basic combo, a shield breaker and a couple special moves. The latter can get very repetitive, as you get very little added to the story and characters and, while the narration is still charming, the gameplay is not varied enough to not get stale. Once you get all the main plot elements, you can either look for the "best ending" or keep exploring the tree of decisions until you find 100% of the possible paths. The endings are fun enough and the narrations follow a common thread: "What is a hero?", which you will find out can have many answers. The first few hours of the game are compelling, because you get to know the motivations of all involved character and some bits of lore about the world. After the ending, you retain your knowledge and replay the story to discover a different path. The story than branches out and you learn more about the current event. You explore a level, find a new bit of information and then decide your next course of action. The story is structured like one of the old gamebooks (think Lone Wolf). A compelling choose-your-own-adventure story, charming if a bit repetitive.
